New York state removed nine candidates from the Democratic primary ballot. The move effectively canceled the primary as it left presumptive nominee Joe Biden as the sole candidate. Some folks are not happy.
this was an interesting post, I knew that the race was still going at it, but having to see this and hearing how only Biden was left on the ballet is kinda strange and it leaves people to see and feel like ok it really it doesn't leave much room for change.
I believe that this is a necessary move especially in light of the trauma and turmoil that New York is facing as a result of COVID-19. It is truly an unprecedented situation. It causes an obvious concern about what will happen come November and what will campaigning look like going forward. There truly so many unknowns for our future. COVID-19 has truly changed it all and I am sure that we still have not seen the full extent of damage that it will cause. We must be prayerful for our nation.
I think it is interesting to hear that they did that. I mean it makes sense to an extent, because everyone knows that Biden will most likely end up being the candidate. However, this also takes away the chance for the citizens opinions to be heard, which is kinda the whole point of the voting process.
The precedent that this sets is quite dangerous. For the state to take the authority of canceling an election is clearly a violation of democracy. It will be interesting to see if there will be repercussions.
Reading the article, I noticed that New York passes a law before Sanders had dropped out saying if candidates drop out they can make the decision to remove them off the ballots. This is not good. In the future, it could lead to further corruption where candidates are threatened, bribed, etc. to take their names off to where there are less and less opportunities for citizens to vote for who they want to. We are already at a point where the only candidates able to get enough votes are those who are rich or well known. It is no longer truly about character or values anymore, but what they can promise.
