Texas Cases on the Rise

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently expressed concern over the increasing daily rate of COVID-19 cases. The daily rate for June is 3,200 new cases compared to 1,500 in May.

This story raises the typical questions with the severity of the virus being question #1. How deadly is Coronavirus? Additionally, is closing down everything the optimal response in mitigating viral impact? Abbott thinks not as he called shutting down the "last option" under consideration.

This is another example of Gov. Abbott thinking through things and doing what he sees best for our people and our economy. He was one of the first to open up our state and he did this when he felt that was the only and best option for us all. He emphasized over and over that the cases are rising but we must keep our doors and businesses open. This put the responsibility of the citizens to practice social distancing and use common sense to not gather in large groups and do our best to keep the numbers down as much as we can without shutting back down. I agree with this and think he did the right thing…

This is an interesting post to find two years later. This was such a confusing time with so many questions, and we still don't have some of those answers. However, we know more now than we did then and improvements have been made. We still have some things shut down in certain cases, but it is far better than it was two years ago, and thank goodness for that!

Personally I feel that shutting down shouldn't be an option at all. I understand that cases keep raising, but we could do so many other things to keep this virus under control. Such as getting the shot, wearing mask and a big one is if you were exposed to it then to properly take the right precautions to keep everyone safe. Shutting down isn't what we need right now especially with so many people struggling already it just isn't the right thing to do.

As I watch the COVID-19 cases raise, it is very interesting how Texans level of fear has changed amongst people now with cases going up. Everyday, I receive an email from my kids school that someone has COVID-19. I am not sure if shutting down AGAIN will be the answer, but I do believe it might be something we need to think about. I think maybe the government needs to do better job enforcing the mask usage, just like they enforced the lock down. I see people all over the place not wearing a mask. I see people on social media acting dramatic about not be served without them wear a mask. We can create new laws and rules but…

The increasing daily rate of COVID-19 cases in June I believe partially has to do with students being out of school. Texans that were following CDC guidelines grew weary of wearing a mask and social distancing. There was a resistance to follow state orders when Texas was first issued to quarantine. I remember going to the grocery store and seeing people without a mask wearing cowboy hats and boots. As the months passed by COVID-19 was becoming old news and Texans became more careless in maintaining social distance. If Texas is closed again, Texans will certainly find a way to socialize. Although, closing Texas is not the optimal response.
