Weekly Watch List

A few news items that should get your attention as we start a new week:

1. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp recently signed a shelter in pace order but excluded public beaches. Kemp has weathered criticism from several sources including mayors within his state.

2. New York became the American Covid-19 epicenter with escalating cases and deaths since at least the first week of March. However, recent data indicates a small albeit consistent decline across most categories. Indeed, the greater NYC metropolitan area could be entering the apex phase according to Governor Andrew Cuomo although what that means remains unclear.

3. Conversely, The Trump Administration and its infectious disease experts indicated this could be the hardest week to date.

4. Unemployment numbers especially initial claims data for this week will explain the gravity of the economic situation facing Americans. Mounting frustration over the stumbling stimulus plan deployment is not helping.

5. And Mark Cuban is toying with joining the billionaire becomes president club.

Thank you for this update! My brother is currently unemployed as well as my older brothers girlfriend. My mom is worried about her job as well. These are trying times, but it doesnt change the fact that the Lord will always provide, we need only to be still.

It has been a very trying time for the country. While it does seem that there is backlash against the many decisions made by our leaders, the decision to make the beaches public sounds very counterintuitive. If people are still able to meet in large gatherings at such a place then it will take even longer to overcome this thing. Hopefully, things get better after this week.

In regards to the Georgia governor keeping public beaches open, I guess that would be similar to how most parks are still open, too. There seems to have been a boom in people going to parks to walk, run or bike. However, a beach seems to me to be a place that should be off limits. We all saw the news reports about spring breakers at the beach, who possibly were the ones to help spread the virus. I feel like going to the beach, and keeping it open to the public is irresponsible. Going to the beach is not typically an activity that people do alone, like going on a walk at the park.

This was an Very Informative! I know that Georgia has received a lot of backlash over allowing the use of beaches. This is because it it allowed under the context of being used for necessary personal fitness and whatnot, however what is being done to regulate it other than just assuming people will keep their distance? It's interesting to see that Mark Cuban is potentially considering running for president, but it's not surprising. I think that we will see more and more "outsiders" choosing to run for president over the years. Whether or not they are successful is anyone's guess.

This was really interesting to read. I knew that New York has most of the deaths in the US and I’m wondering if it’s because everyone is so compacted together so the virus was spreading faster. As well as, New York is also a really known tourist place so it’s possible there were many different people that that affect people without thinking about it. I did hear that this week was supposed to be one of the hardest weeks. Really hoping that we can get back to normal.
