Weekly Watch List

A few items that should get your attention as we start a new week:

1. Governors may not like the American brand of federalism right now. State chief executives are mandating shelter in place edicts which means that folks tired of sheltering direct their ire at the state capitol.

2. The entertainment industry will certainly be a TWWLI (The World We Live in) subject. For example, Disney has started a round of layoffs.

3. Quick note on the first TWWLI subject: The NBA is working overtime to deliver live content.

4. Speaking of NBA content, The Last Dance launched last night. Suggestion to young basketball fans, dedicate a few hours to learn more about MJ.

6. Programming note: the NFL holds its annual player draft this week. Curious to see the ratings.

5. Checks are supposed to be in the mail but another stimulus round could be on the table.

In a professional report, it said, the service industry is the hardest recovered after the disaster, so it is why Disney start job cut.

I think the NFL draft today will either have really high ratings because so many people are missing sports and they’re wanting to do something that involves sports. I do know several people that are having watch parties going on through zoom for the draft. Or the ratings might be low because people realize they don’t need sports all the time anymore.

I am honestly surprised that Disney has lasted this long without laying anyone off so with the news that they're going to start doing that isn't too shocking to me. I'm not a huge basketball fan but it's cool that the NBA released the documentary for MJ to entertain fans during the lockdown.

I did not realize that Disney began laying some of their employees off. That is crazy to me. My mom works in the oil business and it has been plummeting due to the lack of travel during the pandemic. This truly is a crazy world that we are living in right now.

I think that Disney is reacting very oddly and perhaps very unexpectedly in this situation. Disney is Disney and I think they're good on the money front. Therefore, I am not sure why they are doing a round of layoffs. This surprises me a lot. It makes me wonder what they are putting their money towards.
